Sun blaze t5 24 reviews9/7/2023 ![]() ![]() It’s a shocking capper to a cinematic nightmare in which the past haunts everyone onscreen, no matter how much they reject it. He retches over and over again, dry-heaving as if trying to expunge a misdeed that no amount of expulsion could possibly rid from his system. That’s largely to the apparent lack of remorse on the part of its subjects - with one major exception: The climax of the movie finds one of the key figures revisiting the scene of his crimes, quietly contemplating his memories, and then violently rejecting them in ways that he even he can’t control. Joshua Oppenheimer’s unsettling portrait of Indonesian men boasting about their role as torturers in the country’s genocide is one of the most harrowing viewing experiences in film history. But none of them really matter, because this tender exchange gets to the essence of passionate moment where words are not enough, and gestures mean everything. Sure, conspiracy theories have abounded over the years about the specifics of the exchange, and whether it brought closure to the nature of their relationship or kept its future in limbo. So it’s only appropriate that the movie ends on a note of heightened ambiguity, with Murray’s over-the-hill movie star bidding goodbye to Johansson’s much-younger trophy wife by whispering something utterly inscrutable in her ear. ![]() Much of Sofia Coppola’s sweeping, deadpan exploration of two lost souls finding solace in their mutual state of alienation is defined by ambiguity - the ambiguous contours of Bill Murray’s face, the somber expressions that define Scarlett Johansson’s mounting boredom, the chemistry between their two characters they find each other in an affluent, but altogether empty, place. The point is easy to see and hard to forget: An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind. As the camera follows Avner away, it pans to find the World Trade Center in the background, the Twin Towers digitally recreated four years after their destruction. Ephraim asks the traumatized soldier to return to the fight, but Avner refuses. The plot area shown is 30' long by 22' wide. The fixtures are both the 22' T5 fixture. A Mossad agent named Avner (Eric Bana) meets with his handler, Ephraim (Geoffrey Rush), on the edge of a waterside Brooklyn park that overlooks Manhattan. It is a new bulb with only a 1 hour burn in time, but I do not see substantial changes in those bulbs after an hour. The final scene is the stuff of vintage Tony Kushner. If the film’s Hebrew avengers learn anything over the course of their killing spree, it’s that there isn’t any light at the end of the tunnel - there isn’t an end of the tunnel, at all. On the contrary, Spielberg’s enduringly relevant mid-aughts masterpiece about the massacre of the 1972 Israeli Olympic team (and the bloody reprisals that followed) is a story about the terrible cyclicality of violence, a chain of actions and reactions that burns like an eternal flame.
